Contented Critters is a 501(c)(3) non-profit located in Ely, Minnesota that operates as an animal rescue and farm sanctuary. Our vision is to reduce the community need for pet rescue through preemptive measures, such as a spay and neuter program for pets in our care, and community outreach and education.

Our Spay & Neuter Program is made possible through our generous community support. This is NOT a first come, first serve program. We will contact you to let you know if your application has been successful.

Please read the program details in full and fill out the application in its entirety.

Applications that do not meet the criteria, or are not filled out in full, will not be entered into the lottery to participate in the program. 

The Contented Critters Spay Neuter Program follows the MN SNAP program’s income eligibility, as well as some additional requirements. You must meet each of the following criteria:  ​​

• You or your family participates in a federal or state needs-based public assistance program including: Food Support (SNAP, WIC), Medical Assistance (Medicaid, PMAP, MinnesotaCare) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI); and

• You earn less than $45,180 as an individual or less than $93,600 as a family of four; and

• You must be 18 years of age or older; and

• You must have a permanent residence in Ely, Winton, Babbitt, Embarrass, Tower, Aurora, Hoyt Lakes, Eveleth, Gilbert, Isabella, Silver Bay, Biwabik, Britt, Angora, Virginia, Orr, Cook, Chisholm, Mt.Iron, Cherry & Hibbing. PLEASE DO NOT APPLY IF YOU ARE OUTSIDE OF THESE AREAS. ​

 

Criteria to Participate in the Program​

• Kittens must be at least 6 months old

• Puppies  must be at least 6 months old

• Pets must be healthy, hydrated, and eating the day before surgery.

• Pregnant or in heat cats are able to participate in the program

• Pregnant dogs will be considered on a case-by-case basis. 

• Dogs CAN'T be in heat day of surgery, and must be out of heat for at minimum a month. Dogs will be sent home, and we will not refund. 

• Owners are responsible for dropping off and picking up their pets at the Ely Vet Clinic

• Surgery can be declined at the appointment based on the Veterinarian’s discretion and the health of the pet. Please be sure your pet meets all the requirement before applying to this program.
