Hello friends and Contented Critters family! We have an update! Our facilities have officially moved out of our Makinen location. But, that doesn't mean we're not still active in the area. We still take in strays, we still have our contracts, and we still have our little band of dedicated volunteers in the same area. For all intents and purposes, we're still here! The only difference is the location of our shelter. You could say we've expanded our effective range.
Our shelter is now located in Ely at the home of our director, Hailey Worth! It's honestly an already impressive place, with accommodations for pigs, chickens, turkeys, rabbits, and her own dogs. We have further modified a building of hers to accommodate more animals, including our dogs and cats. And when we say "we modified it" we mean we moved a cat cage system into a room. Her building already had dog kennels! All things said, the arrangement is definitely an upgrade from our previous facility. The cats in particular are happier in their new home; they no longer have to live in a drafty trailer!
There is a downside, however: We are currently operating at about half of our capacity, but we plan to be at full capacity by this summer, 2022, after more modifications are made.
The best part is our pets will have around-the-clock attention and immediate access to veterinarian care. We're sad to close the doors on our Makinen facility, but we want to do what’s best for all the animals in our care, and this move is definitely for the best!
